Deborah Szekely, founder of Rancho La Puerta and the famous Golden Door, has been our houseguest for the past few days. She is here in New York on a press tour, meeting with editors of major magazines, bringing them up to date on Rancho La Puerta news (they are opening a cooking school). Deborah has been doing these media tours twice a year for decades, which probably explains why her properties have always gotten a huge amount of media exposure.
Deborah is going to be 84 in May. She is an inspiring example of someone who has incorporated the spa lifestyle into a very busy life–with grand success. She maintains a pace that people of any age (me included) would find hard to keep up with. Yesterday, her schedule included: a breakfast meeting at 9:00 a.m., a meeting at 10:30 a.m. (with Martha Stewart), a luncheon given in her honor with numerous press in attendance, and more meetings at 2:30 and 4:30 p.m. She then stopped by the apartment to change for a cocktail and dinner gathering. Yikes…and she has been keeping this pace for four press days!
